The personal computer was jump started by groups of people hacking together computers in their free time, but it seems our culture has come to accept computers as simple devices that are never opened up. Open hardware is benefiting from a wealth of low cost sensors, and low power technology that is allowing it to be used for an incredible range of new products. Ardafruit is at the center of this movement, pulling in as much as $20M in 2014. Open source hardware is reducing the gap between an idea and a product.
