Microsoft has added Linux and Docker container support to Azure, their cloud platform. This move was made as an effort to expand Microsoft’s market in cloud services, specifically PaaS. The company has realized it needs to accept and support services from its competitors as more businesses become concerned with locking into a platform that might not evolve how they need it to. This change happened quickly, with Microsoft adopting technologies that hardly existed even a year ago. Hopefully, this marks the beginning of a period where Microsoft supports open source more than they have in the past.
