The tech industry has had problems with gender diversity for some time, and the gap between men and women involvement in open source has been even worse. OpenHatch started in 2009 as an effort to recruit open source contributors from a variety of backgrounds on college campuses. Efforts like this seek to expand the diversity of open source communities by making the open source process more accessible.
