According to a report sponsored by unified collaboration software specialist Zimbra, more than 70% of IT professionals in the US believe open source software provides more control and ensures better business continuity than proprietary software. More than 1,300 IT professionals were surveyed and the findings indicate a continued move away from cost savings as the number one reason for choosing open source. 63 percent of respondents believe open source software is higher quality with fewer bugs than proprietary software; this indicates a growing dissatisfaction with proprietary messaging and collaboration platforms.
