Many modern scientific journals suffer from problems associated with a lack of access to the underlying data and code to scientific research. The inability to replicate code or data can make it extremely challenging for other scientists to replictate research, and considering that more than 80% of all scientific research is publicly or charitably funded (p. 5), it is vital to make scientific research more open. There is an ongoing movement in the scientific community to improve the selection of open access research in order to make scientific research easier, and more efficient.
