Apple made Swift, their new programming language, available a few months ago, however they went against the ongoing trend to open source programming languages by making Swift completely proprietary. This decision has many complex factors that affect it including the need to attract developers, control their product ecosystem, and encourage developers to generate new apps. Time will tell how this decision will contribute to Apple’s sustained growth.
