Microsoft has always had problems gaining traction in emerging markets, with many people not willing to spend exorbitant amounts for their software. In China this has resulted in widespread piracy of Microsoft software and the emergence of ‘naked PC’s’ which do not have an operating system installed. Between the costly prices of Microsoft products and the Chinese government’s distaste for software that could be used to spy on them, Linux has found a meager foothold in what is now the largest consumer PC market in the world.
