Google recently made headlines when the company announced that Youtube would no longer use flash for streaming videos. Flash is proprietary software, owned by Adobe, and has been the target of considerable criticism from the free software movement since one of its primary purposes is to restrict the abilities of the user. You might expect the removal of flash from the largest online video streaming site to be a major win for this community, however the HTML 5 standards that are replacing it are similarly designed by Adobe and allow for a similar level of restriction. It seems the new boss is the same as the old boss.
