The British Government Digital Services (GDS) seeks to hire an Open Source Lead to help the UK government advance open source initiatives. The UK government has been receptive to open standards and open source technology over the past few years, so it’s a natural step for them to hire someone to lead this effort. The GDS seeks to expand their usage of open source technology and wants to increase their upstream contributions and eventually launch their own initiatives.
From the job posting:
“We now want to build on that work with a more concerted approach to open source (and “inner source”), building collaboration and reuse internally and making higher impact contributions to the wider open source community. There’s an enthusiastic and committed group of developers across government ready to work on this and we are looking for a motivated, visionary individual to lead this effort and take our work to the next level”
