Ubuntu for Android was launched in 2012 as an attempt to merge Android and Ubuntu. Canonical wanted to create a device that ran Android and Ubuntu side-by-side and shared system resources. Canonical has decided to refocus efforts on Ubuntu Touch: their new operating system.
