edX is being used for a very long list of educational sites on the web as a platform that gives instructors and educational institutions a set of starting tools and the ability to extend the platform. The edX team has spent considerable effort getting their community involved in the development of the platform and they often combine the knowledge of educators with the technical abilities of software engineers to further develop the software.
