The Linux Foundation has announced new financial support for seven projects under the R Consortium: an open source foundation that supports the R programming language community. R is a programming language that excels at data analysis, modeling, and visualization, and it’s popularity is expected to grow along with demand for big data services.
The Linux Foundation is offering a total of $200,000 in grants, and will be using this money to fund the following projects:
- A Unified Framework for Distributed Computing in R
- Improving Database Interfaces
- R Implementation, Optimization, and Tooling Workshops
- R Localization Proposal
- Sat R Days
- Simple Features Access for R
- Software Carpentry R Instructor Training
