Ben Balter is the Government Evangelist at GitHub, and a major part of his job has been expanding the understanding and use of open source inside the federal government. He has had two primary focal points during his tenure at GitHub. The first is to improve the culture and education of how governmental agencies get things done in order to improve the usage of technology. The second is to separate the legal requirements of a project from the work of the developers in order to free up developers for work that is directly related to their talents. Ben has also worked to improve the understanding of open source security and licensing in many government circles.
