Red Hat is forming an alliance along with AMD, American megatrends, Appliced Micro, Broadcom, Dell, HP, Linaro, and ARM Holdings to develop a standardized 64-bit ARM platform for servers. ARM is being eyed by many companies for server environments because of its low power consumption and adaptability, but so far most server platforms have been incompatible with each other in highly-disruptive ways. This new partnership seeks to standardize the use of ARM chips in server environments.
