Weaveworks announced on December 3 that the company has raised $5 million in series A funding to develop Weave: software that provides virtual networking services for the deployment of Docker containers. Weave established layer 2 connectivity between Docker containers, effectively making them appear as a giant Ethernet switch. The next step for the project is to add dynamic address allocation, similar to DHCP services. The company doesn’t plan on stopping with Docker and hopes to support a variety of container services in the future.
