The Linux Foundation has compiled a report of the companies and individuals who contribute to and influence the Linux Kernel code. The latest report includes kernel releases 3.19 to 4.7, here are some major points from their report:
- Nearly 115,000 changesets have been merged from 5,062 individual developers, representing 500 corporations.
- On average, each version took 66 days to release and included more than 12,300 changesets, resulting in an average pace of 7.8 patches per hour.
- The Kernel now contains just shy of 22 million lines of code, and added 4,600 lines per day during the time of this report.
- The 4.2 release saw a record number of companies contribute at 251, however the average number of companies seems to be remaining consistent.
- An average of 262 new developers made contributions to each version of the Kernel.
