Olabode Anise, and Jordan Wright, two researchers at Duo Security, have released an open source tool to identify bots on Twitter. The researchers gathered data from Twitter using the platform’s API and applied 20 traits they identified as bot behavior. They were able to identify two classifications of bots: a cryptocurrency giveaway scam, and social spam. These two bot types represent a small number of the total accounts on Twitter, and this research will likely be used to inform further study on bot accounts.
