  • Open Source Version Control Hosting with GitLab

GitLab specializes in revision control systems and offers revision control SaaS as well as a Community Edition of their software which is open source and can be run on private servers. The ability to run the software on private servers makes it much easier for a company to configure their network and other tools to work with a revision control system. GitLab also offers a number of features that expand upon the capability of git, like protected branches, authentication levels, a UI, and the ability to offer high-availability through multiple active servers.

The company behind the software takes the open source approach to their business practices as well by being transparent with their customers and discussing processes with them when there are problems. The company plans to expand on the continuous integration capabilities of the GitLab software in the coming months.
