Sony and Google have partnered to release OpenCue: an open source, high-performance render manager specifically built for the needs of the visual effects and animation industry. OpenCue has been used internally at Sony for many years where they used it in their on-premise data centers to scale up to over 150,000 cores. Sony and Google partnered to get this tool running on the Google Cloud Platform as part of the process of releasing it as open source.
Sony and Google are both members of the Academy Software Foundation which seeks to promote open source technology in the filmmaking and production industries.
